Mould and Moisture Assessments

Mould and Moisture Assessments

At Direct Hazmat Consultants we can provide different types of mould and moisture assessments.

Detailed Mould and Moisture Assessments

Our detailed investigation involves a visual inspection of the site for mould and water ingress issues using a thermal camera and moisture meter. Sampling involves taking air spore trap samples and surface samples for analysis to determine the mould type and quantity. The laboratory we use has quick turnaround times, so there are minimal delays. The results from the investigation are then used to determine if there is an issue and make recommendations for remediation, if necessary.

Post-remediation Mould Assessments

This type of assessment determines whether the remediation work has been successful or not. This involves a visual inspection, odour assessment, air sampling, surface moisture testing, timber moisture testing, and the use of a thermal camera to look for abnormalities. The results from the assessment are used to determine whether the remediation was successful and whether the building is safe for re-occupation.

Indoor Air Quality Assessments

DHC can provide indoor air quality assessments of homes, schools, offices and workplaces. The goal of these assessments is to identify and resolve issues as promptly as possible.

Indoor Air Quality Assessment

Indoor air quality assessments are usually conducted following complaints from occupants surrounding allergy-like symptoms or malodours. Indoor air quality issues can cause a wide range of adverse health effects from skin irritation, and headaches to sore eyes, nose, throat and respiratory tract issues. These are normally categorised as either sick building syndrome or building-related illness, or multifactorial.

Depending on the problem, the assessments are tailored to identify the cause of the issue. Common problems include; dampness, humidity, mould, asbestos, formaldehyde, lack of ventilation, carbon dioxide, lead dust and other common contaminants. Our occupational hygienist then conducts testing based on their observations and the information gathered to determine what the issue is.

Lead-based Paint Assessments

Direct Hazmat Consultants can provide testing of the air, surfaces, water and soil for lead-based paint contamination. Lead is a poisonous, toxic substance that can cause permanent neurological effects, or can even be fatal. Early symptoms of lead poisoning include stomach pain, difficulty sleeping, constipation, and/or loss of appetite.

Paint flakes, dust and fumes from burning off or sanding the old paint are the major contributors to lead poisoning.

Lead-based Paint Assessment

This type of assessment involves taking paint samples for analysis to identify the lead-based paints in a structure. Our reports identify any issues and make recommendations in accordance with the Ministry of Health Guidelines.

Lead Contamination Assessment

This usually occurs if a client is concerned that their property has become contaminated with lead-based paint. This could be from the natural deterioration of the paint, or from the improper removal of lead-based paints. Depending on the scope, this type of assessment may involve air, dust, water and soil sampling to determine the extent of the contamination.

Lead Validation Assessment

A validation assessment is conducted after the remediation of lead contamination to determine if the area is safe for re-occupation.

Preliminary Soil Investigations

Direct Hazmat Consultants can provide preliminary soil investigations (PSI) for your land.

These investigations are the first step and include a combination of desktop study, site inspection and sampling if necessary, to determine if the soil has been contaminated. The assessment is tailored to suit your requirements and can include common contaminants such as asbestos, lead and other heavy metals.
